Smash it with our tennis facilities
Anyone for tennis? That particular question hails from a time when the sport was mainly the preserve of private country clubs and stately homes with their own courts. Excuse the play on words, but these days tennis is for ANYONE, as you’ll see from the public courts in several parks all over Blackpool – Anchorsholme, Cavendish, Claremont, Highfield and, of course, Stanley Park.
These courts are always at their most popular during the high summer months, as would-be Andy Murrays and Emma Radacanus aim to emulate their heroes. But tennis is playable in most weathers, except the most inclement of conditions, and the best news of all is that the aforementioned courts are all free to use – with the exception of Stanley Park, where it is £5 per hour or £60 for an annual pass.
It’s a very sociable sport too, with singles, doubles, and mixed doubles making it an ideal way to spend time being active with family and/or friends.

We Do Tennis
Now, we did say tennis is for ANYONE, and to prove the point, we’ve teamed up with We Do Tennis, a not-for-profit CIC (Community Interest Company) to encourage more people to play tennis in their local parks. And you could be part of that movement as we look to encourage more people (of any ability) to become We Do Tennis volunteers, known as Park Tennis Activators.
Park Tennis Activators work together as a team to run fun games and exercises that will help more people to get active and discover their love for tennis. Training equipment – and a hoody – is provided. The sessions are free for all ages and abilities and run for 60 minutes every Saturday or Sunday, offering participants the chance to serve up some new sporting skills.
If you’re interested in becoming a Park Tennis Activator, please email Andy at andy@wedotennis.uk and arrange a call to start inspiring a new group – a generation even! – of tennis players.
And speaking of the next generation, FUNdamentals at Stanley Park is a six-week tennis course for children aged six to 11.
The sessions work on the basic skills of tennis and focus on having FUN! They run between 11am and 12noon on Saturdays and the course costs £21.
Local tennis leagues
More than 200 mixed singles and doubles leagues are taking place at local parks and public courts across the nation all year round for adults over the age of 18.
If you want to test yourself – or even if you’ve never competed before – all-comers are welcome in the Barclays Local Tennis Leagues, of which there is one for the Fylde Coast area.

Making a racquet
Tennis is just one of the racquet sports we cater for here at Active Blackpool. You can book short tennis, badminton and table tennis too.
You can pre book your sessions online via the Active Blackpool app or by calling our hotline on 01253 478474. Payment must be made at the time of booking.
Don’t forget to bring your own bats, shuttle cocks, and table tennis balls, although you can buy them at the centre.
If you want to play short tennis, book a badminton/short tennis court and let the receptionist know at check-in to have the net adapted to short tennis. Once again, please bring your own short tennis balls and rackets.
