Young People in the Gym at Active Blackpool
We love seeing young people getting active in our gyms!
To help you stay safe and get the most from your workouts, we want to make sure you’re using the equipment correctly and looking after your growing body.
How old do I have to be to come to the Gym?
We offer dedicated gym access for young people, helping them build confidence, learn new skills, and stay active in a safe and supportive environment.
Ages 11–13
If you’re aged 11 to 13 and want to go to the gym, you can book onto our supervised 11-13 yrs gym sessions, available after school and at weekends.
During these sessions, a qualified Gym Instructor will always be on hand to:
- Show you how to use the equipment safely
- Give advice on exercise and training
- Help you develop good techniques and healthy habits
- Make sure you’re using the right weights for your age and ability
These sessions are designed to be fun, supportive, and a great introduction to the gym.
Ages 14+
From age 14, you can enjoy full gym access at any time, giving you more flexibility to work out around school, hobbies, and your routine.
How to get started in the gym….
Before using the gym, all juniors must complete a gym induction. One of our friendly, supportive instructors will take the time to show you how to use the equipment safely and effectively, so you can get the most out of your workouts and feel comfortable in the space.
You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions and build your confidence along the way. We’ll also get you set up on Fitness Hub and EGYM, creating a personalised programme based on your goals, whether that’s getting fitter, building strength, improving mobility, or simply feeling better day to day.
Booking is easy
Just head to the Active Blackpool app, choose your site, select Make a Booking, and pick the Induction option. You can also book online, in person, or over the phone.
Inductions are free for all our members.
If you haven’t joined yet, you can still book an induction for just £5.75 for a young person, a great way to get started, build confidence, and learn how to use the gym safely before becoming a member.
What to wear to your induction
You’ll be using the equipment during your induction, so you’ll need to wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely, without getting in the way while using the equipment. You’ll also need to be wearing training shoes with closed toes that don’t slip off your feet
Don’t forget to bring a water bottle to keep you hydrated, we have free water fountains in all our gyms and we know you’ll be working hard so a small towel might also be useful.
What to bring to your induction
On your induction day, please remember to bring a couple of important items with you: proof of age and a copy of our Young Persons Code of Conduct – signed by both you and your parent or guardian. Paper copies of the Code of Conduct are available from reception if you need one.
If you don’t bring these with you, we won’t be able to carry out your induction.
