Gym disruption at Palatine Leisure Centre will be well worth it – we promise!

Gym regulars at Palatine Leisure Centre will face a short period of disruption soon – but we promise it will be well worth it!

Work will begin on Monday, 23 June, to refurbish and extend the gym at the centre on St Anne’s Road, which means we’re setting up a temporary gym in the Class Studio until the improvements are complete – a period of four weeks.

During this time, classes will be relocated to Common Edge Community Sports Village.

Once the work is finished, all the usual equipment will be back alongside 11 new pieces for even better strength and cardio workouts.

Please note, however, there will be short closures at the start and finish of the work to allow for the equipment to be moved and installed, so look out for the dates, which we’ll share as soon as we know them.

Martin Cardwell, Active Blackpool’s Operations Manager, explains: “The gym at Palatine is Active Blackpool’s smallest gym, and we recognise the need to improve the experience to all our members at this facility.

“Working within the building’s existing footprint, we have identified that by unifying the space, which was the functional area and the gym office, we can increase the size of the gym, reconfigure it, and provide a bigger and better environment for members to work out in.”

Here’s a floorplan of how the new-look gym will be laid out, with the new equipment shown in green:

And here’s a sneak peek at some of the new equipment in a little more detail:

Connexus Edge multi-exercise offers a virtually limitless range of exercises thanks to access to a range of training accessories.

The Magnum Olympic Flat Bench is designed to support a wide variety of strength training exercises.

Ideal for glute and hamstring exercises, the Magnum Glute / Ham Bench features band hooks and handles for performing reverse hyperextensions.

The Magnum Smith Machine features a 90-degree path of motion that adapts to a full spectrum of exercises.

The Endurance Recumbent Cycle distributes weight and offers excellent support for a low-impact cardio workout.

The Endurance ClimbMill is great for enthusiasts and beginners alike, giving members a secure, stable step workout.

With a backrest that adjusts to seven positions marked out in degrees, the Magnum Multi-adjustable Bench w/Decline supports a variety of training exercises.

Originally designed as a training tool for cross country skiers, the Concept2 SkiErg® works legs, core and arms in a smooth, continuous motion.

The Assault Runner Pro machine is designed to help users reach their fitness goals.

Last, but not least, the Sprint Sled Track is excellent for developing explosive power, speed, and core conditioning. Users can run mix up their sessions by crawling, flipping, lunging and jumping, to work on theior functional cardio and strength.
