Water Wellbeing Accreditation
Active Blackpool are excited to announce that they have received the Water Wellbeing accreditation from Swim England.
To achieve the accreditation, Active Blackpool has worked hard to ensure that those who are inactive and/or have long term health conditions have the opportunity to become physically active in water.
As part of the accreditation Active Blackpool has expanded the Adult Learn 2 swim program and implemented new sessions including Water Wellbeing sessions and the introduction of the Good Boost programme.
launched in January, the Good Boost sessions use water therapy and digital technology to bespoke gentle routines for people living with MSK related conditions. The programme works with GP referral patients to support their rehabilitation and management of their conditions.
A case study shared by Swim England touches on the benefits to NHS waiting lists, sharing the story.
“Another participant had knee surgery cancelled as a result of taking part in the Water Wellbeing programme due to increased muscle mass which helped support the knee and weight loss from regular exercise.’
Andrew Power, Water Wellbeing Specialist, Swim England said:
“It has been great to see the level of commitment and attention to detail from the team at Active Blackpool whilst progressing through the Water Wellbeing accreditation process. Becoming accredited indicates the organisation has taken steps to making its’ pools more accessible, more inclusive and more welcoming to people with long term health conditions and impairments. I am looking forward to seeing how this enhanced opportunity for local people to experience the benefits of being active in water is maximised in the coming months and would encourage local policy makers and commissioners of services to explore the potential pathways available with the team.”
The positive impact of this accreditation will go far, studies have already proven that swimming boosts life expectancy and reduces the risks of heart disease, strokes and early death.
The accreditation achieved by Active Blackpool will allow staff to provide tailored advice for people living with chronic and long term conditions on how they can become more active, as well as running sessions specifically aimed at these individuals.
The sessions also have a friendly, social focus, which is crucial to supporting the positive mental health of those taking part.
