Channel your passion for swimming

We offer superb pool facilities and the chance to make a splash with our variety of swimming activities

Swimming is not just good exercise, it’s GREAT exercise, according to the late Dr Michael Mosley, who won the love and respect of the nation with his insights into our health and wellbeing.

So, why is that?

As Dr Mosley explained in his BBC Radio 4 Just One Thing programme (which is still available on BBC Sounds), when you’re swimming vigorously, you are using lots of different muscle groups and, importantly, you are working against the weight of the water.

So, if you’re inspired to dive into the joy of swimming by Dr Mosley’s sage advice, or you’ve been watching GB’s swimmers show off their prowess in the swimming pool this summer, look no further than Active Blackpool!

Pre School Swimming Lesson at Moor Park 1

If you or yours can’t swim – we’re here for you!

First things first: if you can’t swim, or your children can’t swim, now is the time to start learning. Swimming is not only great exercise, it’s a vital life skill that could save your life, or that of someone else, one day.

Active Blackpool children’s swimming lessons run for 50 weeks a year with two weeks off over Christmas and New Year. And we offer 10-week blocks of swimming lessons for adults too.

Swimming lessons for kids

For pre-school children, our Discovery Ducklings classes are designed for little ones to get used to the water. That introduction is provided through songs, games, and support and it aims to promote water confidence, alongside a sociable environment for parents and children.

If you’re looking for swimming lessons for you and your baby, our Discovery Ducklings programme is suitable for little ones aged 0 to 24 months depending on their development. Discovery Duckling classes are then followed by Duckling and Advanced Duckling classes as children get older.

Holiday Activities Swimming

From first splash to developing confidence

For school age children, we have Swim England’s Learn to Swim stages one to seven framework. This all-inclusive programme takes the non-swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.

Stages one to seven are suitable for school-age children with no previous swimming experience, but If your child has had swimming lessons before, they may be able to join at a higher stage.

So, as we’ve shown, Active Blackpool has swimming lessons for all ages and offers parents free access to the most up-to-date home portal system that allows you to:

  • Monitor your child’s progress against the national award outcomes.

  • See badges that have been awarded.

  • Choose the next class, day, time, and teacher when your child is ready to move up to the next stage.

Adult swimming lessons with no age limits

Around one-in-three adults in the UK can’t swim a length. Yet, one-in-four non-swimmers would like to learn how.

The Swim England Adult Swimming Framework is about improving confidence, technique, and safety in the water, with no age limits (age 14+). It takes participants from being water confident to being a competent swimmer and onwards and upwards to becoming a master swimmer.

Rookie lifesavers

If your child is as comfortable in an indoor swimming pool as a fish in the ocean, then our rookie lifeguard programme is a fun and educational junior award scheme for all eight to 16-year-olds.

Rookie lifeguard skills make children and teenagers aware of how to take care of themselves, their family, and friends, by giving them the information and skills they need to promote water safety in their day-to-day activities.

The programme has three levels – bronze, silver, and gold – and sessions take place at our Moor Park and Palatine centres.

Aqua aerobics

Our pools are not just about swimming, though.

Aqua aerobics is ideal for fat burning and for a real energy boost. Our classes will help you increase your stamina, tone up your body, as well as bust some stress! As Dr Mosley mentioned in his radio programme, the water provides added resistance and support for a challenging workout.

Our classes at Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre and Palatine Leisure Centre are taken by qualified instructors, who provide programmes that will give you a beneficial routine that can make a huge difference to your overall fitness.

Holidaying youngsters will be able to swim for free this summer.

Our school holiday timetable at Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre is specifically aimed at juniors aged between eight and 16 years old. Juniors do not need to accompanied by an adult for these sessions if they are over the age of eight, but they should bring their leisure card with them to check in.

The sessions are available between 22nd July and 1st September and please check for any timetable changes before attending.
