We'd love to introduce you to Dave Rohman….
If you have had child attending school in Blackpool over the past 18 years, it likely that they’ve taken part in an event or an activity that Dave has organised.
He’s the driving force behind an Inclusive School Games both with Blackpool and across Lancashire as a whole and works with school PE departments year round to provide inclusive opportunities to participate in a huge variety of sports and activities.
This week Dave was recognised at The Barclay’s Girls Football in Schools Strategic Awards for his Outstanding Inclusive Practice.
His passion for sport and his mission to ensure it is available to every child in Blackpool is never ending and we are incredibly proud that this has been recognised on a national level.
Councillor Jo Farrell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing said:
‘It’s wonderful to see Dave receive this recognition in celebration of all of his hard work. Without a doubt, he is changing the lives of young girls in Blackpool and beyond.
Physical activity is so important, so Dave’s work is crucial to ensure more children feel like they have a place within sport. I look forward to seeing the continuing positive impact that Dave and his team will make for our town.’
What did the awards panel say about Dave?
“Dave Rohman has built a groundbreaking inclusive football programme across Lancashire, offering girls in Special Schools and Alternative Provision settings the same opportunities and recognition as their mainstream peers. Through strategic integration into the School Games, a new U16 Girls League, and plans for U14 and U12 expansion, Dave’s work is reshaping school sport into a truly inclusive space. His leadership has not only increased participation but changed perceptions—giving every girl the opportunity to play, grow, and lead through football.”
“Dave Rohman has built one of the most inclusive school football programmes in the country. Through his leadership, Lancashire now offers regular, high-quality football opportunities to students in Special Schools and Alternative Provision (AP) settings. By integrating these experiences into the mainstream School Games infrastructure, Dave has ensured that girls with additional needs are not on the margins—they’re at the heart of school football.”
“Dave Rohman’s unwavering commitment has established a countywide inclusive football programme that transforms lives. By embedding SEND and AP football within the School Games structure, he has ensured equity in access, opportunity, and recognition—making football a powerful tool for growth, belonging, and joy for every girl, regardless of background or ability.”
